Rainforests, Rivers, and Remote Wilderness

Central Africa is one of the least visited and most mysterious regions in the world. Dominated by dense rainforests, mighty rivers, and vast wilderness, this is a region for true adventure catchers. From the Congo River to the remote jungles of Gabon and the volcanic landscapes of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central Africa offers raw beauty and unforgettable experiences. Wildlife, tribal cultures, and a sense of real exploration define this fascinating region.
This is not the easiest region to catch and infrastructure can be limited. Gabon is often seen as one of the easier and safer catches, while Rwanda’s neighbouring countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo offer extraordinary but more challenging experiences. Equatorial Guinea and the Central African Republic are among the hardest catches in Africa. Chad and Niger can be fascinating but conditions change quickly, so careful planning is essential.
🇨🇫 Central African Republic – Although remote, CAR boasts rich rainforests and an impressive diversity of wildlife, including rare forest elephants and lowland gorillas.
Very difficult to catch at present. Hard access. Expensive visa.
🇹🇩 Chad – Known for adventure seekers looking for rugged, untamed landscapes. Due to the ever-changing security situation, check carefully before travelling.
Possible to so on an overlay from Paris. Stick to the capital. Aim for guided tour.
🇨🇬 Republic of Congo – Dense rainforests, winding rivers and rich wildlife create a feeling of true central African wilderness.
More accessible than DCR. Possible day trip to Kinshasa. Crossing Congo very fractious and ever changing. Stick to Brazzaville.
🇨🇩 Democratic Republic of Congo – Immense rainforests, powerful rivers, and rare wildlife create raw, untamed beauty with a thriving capital – Kinshasa.
Avoid the East and many central areas. Look for guided tours in Kinshasa. Reasonable access via Paris or Brussels. Enjoy the music scene with guide. Dont attempt Congo river exploration without serious planning.
🇬🇶 Equatorial Guinea – The only Spanish speaking country in Africa located both on the mainland and the island.
Access via Madrid. Heavily controlled country and hard to catch.

Good entry into Libreville via Paris. Visas possible. Fascinating national parks, but be realistic about what you can do.
🇳🇪 Niger – Vast desert scenery, nomadic cultures and dramatic dunes shape one of the worlds most striking landscapes.
Uncatchable at the moment due to security situation.
