High living standards, strong nature culture, calm urban life

Scandinavia is a region of stunning natural beauty, clean cities, and high quality of life. From Norway’s fjords to Sweden’s islands and Finland’s vast forests, this is one of the easiest and most organised parts of Europe to travel and country catch. It is safe, efficient, and visually spectacular.
Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland are all very easy catches, each offering a slightly different experience from modern cities to dramatic landscapes. Iceland feels the most remote, while Denmark and Sweden are the most urban and accessible.
🇩🇰 Denmark – Compact design driven cities and a strong cycling culture. Copenhagen blends historic charm with modern architecture and food innovation.
Tertiary cities of Aalborg or Aarhus in Jutland are excellent and connected to Europe on direct flights. Amazing Christmas beer widely served from about 14th November upto Christmas – great Danish tradition. No cash needed. Flixbus very easy and common. Don’t forget Faroe Islands and their wonderful tunnel network and, if you are seriously into the outdoors, Greenland.
🇫🇮 Finland – Forests, lakes, and a quiet social rhythm define Finland. Go to the very north to experience Lapland!
Helsinki easy to visit by boat from Tallinn or by train from St Petersburg. Saunas are everywhere and great all year round. Turku well worth a visit. Lapland is unique but very touristy and expensive.
🇮🇸 Iceland – Volcanic landscapes, glaciers, and geothermal energy shape the country. Tourism focuses on nature, road trips, and outdoor experiences.
Weather can change very quickly so be wary. The 1 road goes round the circumference of the island and is easy. Hiring a car at Keflavik is cheap and easy. Keflavik is 1 hour from Reykjavik centre but easy on a bus. Internal flights from the city airport connects to fascinating places such as Isafjordur in the north west region. Best bar = Danskekrol! Many geo thermal pools and swimming pools so no need to go the very common and expensive ones. Buy a lot of food and booze at the duty free in Keflavik as will save you a lot of money! 🇳🇴 Norway – Deep fjords, mountain roads, and dramatic coastlines dominate the landscape. Oslo and Bergen offer small but refined urban culture.
Oslo great but you need to download the app to use the metro. Try the thermal pools and sauna right in the city centre opposite the Munch museum where you can swim in the sea too. Wine very expensive with beer a bit better. Tromso is a delight. Very little open on a Sunday after about 4pm, even in hotels. See more on Lofoten Islands here
🇸🇪 Sweden – The country is huge with vast forests. Stockholm blends historic quarters with modern design and a number of beautiful islands.
Stockholm has many delights. The metro is good and Gamla Stan – the old town – well worth visiting on foot. The food stall markets are the best place to meet. Malmo can easily be visited from Copenhagen via the recently built bridge. Djurgarden island is a great place to visit by bus or to run round if you have the desire. Try a boat to travel from one place to the other. Gothenburg also interesting but less to see. Other northern areas very rustic but vast distances.
