China

China is one of the world’s most vast and historically significant countries, where ancient traditions, extraordinary cities and spectacular natural landscapes combine to create an almost unparalleled variety of experiences. Home to thousands of years of history and one of the world’s oldest continuous civilisations, China offers everything from imperial palaces and ancient temples to futuristic skylines, dramatic mountains and vast rural landscapes.

  • Set up Alipay and WeChat Pay before your trip, linking international cards like Visa, Mastercard, or Amex. You simply we will not be able to pay for items without this! Also carry some small amount of RMB cash just in case needed for souvenirs etc.
  • Visa requirements vary and there are sometime visa free arrangements, such as with the UK until the end of 2026. Note that Macau and HK will have different arrangements.
  • Many internet sites are blocked including the main apps such as Whatsapp, Google and Facebook. Make sure you use the local equivalents such as wechat or carry a VPN if required.
