General Tips for Algeria
- Bring cash only and exchange on the black market. Everyone does!
- Very hard to find beers anywhere.
- The visa is expensive and you normally have to go in person. But it is relatively straight forward to complete.
- Not many tourists around.
- Great to buy items locally and at the airport as prices are very good. Your local currency will be worthless outside.
Destinations and Tips
Algiers
- Metro and local transport is good.
- Visit the botanical gardens and see the famous tarzan tree. Nice to walk around there too.
- Not that many restaurants that are easy to find and most close very early.
- Second biggest mosque in the world is there. Visit from the outside is normally best.
Constantine
- Twin with Djemila.
- Just about doable on a day trip from Algiers.
- More relaxed than the capital.
- You can take the cable car for amazing views.
